Roe V. Wade: A New Chapter

Those who know me understand that I am a proponent of adoption, foster care, and other ministries to care for mothers and children. When I first held my oldest daughter in my arms at the courthouse, and the judge finalized the adoption, we paused and prayed for our daughter’s birthmother. The courage this young teenage birthmother displayed will be an inspiration to me. Thankfully, each congregation I have served has shared my concern for women and men who experience unplanned pregnancies. This posture of compassion is true of the Birmingham Metro Baptist Association as well. The church’s support and compassion radiate from hearts transformed by the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ.

Over the next few weeks, the crisis pregnancy and medical center at the Birmingham Metro Baptist Association will begin offering services. Women and men in challenging circumstances will find help, hope, and healing in the name of Jesus Christ. Our Sovereign God, in his providence, planned for the BMBA—in partnership with Sav-A-Life Vestavia—to provide this center at just the right moment in history. With the U.S. Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, Birmingham Metro Baptists will be at the forefront in serving women, men, children, and the unborn. We express our most profound appreciation to the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, North American Mission Board, Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, and the churches of the BMBA for making this ministry a reality.

We ask you to pray for women, men, and children visiting the center. Please know that by virtue of your participation in the Birmingham Metro Baptist Association, you are advancing the Gospel in a relevant way during this critical moment in history. Finally, I wish to thank our BMBA leadership and the leadership at Sav-A-Life for their hard work in making this vision a reality. We desire that each person who enters the door finds the love of Jesus Christ and a connection to essential resources.

God has provided many other resources for women and men in our BMBA Partner Center. WorkFaith Birmingham is an employment ministry designed to help individuals develop skills and connect for a sustainable career. Lifeline serves to assist with adoptions. Decisions Choices and Options provides sexual risk avoidance education. Pathways and Awaken ministries offer biblical counseling and coaching. God has provided resources from our ministry partners and BMBA churches within our walls to serve those who visit the medical center.
