Statement From BMBA and Bessemer Baptist Association Concerning COVID-19

Latest Update 03/26/20:

The BMBA office will be closed until April 3rd as we shelter in place due to COVID-19. Our BMBA staff will be working from home with the intent of reevaluating our course of action weekly.

Dr. Chris Crain, BMBA Executive Director, and Dr. Greg Corbin, BMBA Moderator, have established a COVID-19 Crisis Leadership Team to help guide the Association during this unprecedented time.

These are unprecedented and uncertain times we are living in. As you are aware, new information about COVID-19 becomes available daily. The BMBA and BBA are continuously monitoring the situation and are in contact with the EMA, local governing officials, and other local experts to assist our churches and disaster relief efforts.

For the time being, the BMBA and BBA will suspend our weekly ministers’ conference so that our pastors can be focused on providing pastoral care to those that need it most. In addition, any in person gatherings currently scheduled will be rescheduled to a later date. Although we are adjusting our meeting schedule, we are still just as committed to encouraging, equipping, and engaging our churches. There will continue to be someone at the association office available to you. We will be providing information about resources that are available to help churches minister to their congregations and community. Our BMBA Facebook page will be continuously updated with relevant resources for you. If your church has specific needs or is willing to help in a specific way, please let us know.

This is a time to strategize how you can increase your church’s online presence, how to communicate with your people instantaneously and effectively, maintain financial support for the mission and ministry of the church, and focus on the Great Commission and making disciples.

During this time when fear and anxiety have run rampant, we have seen church leaders respond with grace, wisdom, and compassion and church members who remain committed to pray, give, and worship (some of them from home). Many of our churches are assembling teams to care for and support the high-risk groups.

We are praying that all of our pastors will rise up in these uncertain times and lead God’s people triumphantly through this season. By God’s grace and for His glory, you can do it. “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power, love, and self control.” (2 Timothy 1:7). We are cheering you on!
